Tauranga Food Forest Summer Tour

Saturday 23 January 2027 2-3.30pm

NZ$80.00

Step into a lush, abundant food forest and experience what it feels like to explore and wander through a real working system - right here in Tauranga.

This is your chance to walk through a thriving one-acre food forest in Welcome Bay, taste what’s in season, and see how a productive food forest comes together in real life. You’ll move through layers of edible plants, discover what’s growing now, and get a feel for how everything connects - from soil to canopy.

Featuring over 100 varieties of fruit trees, along with a wide diversity of edible and useful plants, you’ll see tropical and subtropical species thriving locally, including bananas, pineapples, dragon fruit, guava, many tropical varieties and more. We will also be in peak dahlia season - feel free to pick some flowers!

As you explore, you’ll naturally pick up ideas and inspiration you can use in your own space - from what grows well in the Tauranga climate to how plants work together in a living system, and simple ways to improve soil and productivity.

The space is constantly evolving, adapting, and producing food, and you’ll be stepping right into it. You’ll also see how elements like greenhouse growing, vertical trellising, and sheltered microclimates come together to support the system.

This food forest was featured in NZ Gardener Magazine (April 2026) as an inspiring example of edible landscape design in New Zealand.

To keep things relaxed and personal, group size is limited to 8 adults.

Bring a carry bag for foraging - seeds, cuttings, food and anything else we find along the way. Plants will be available for purchase at the end of the tour.

The tour includes walking on slopes, stairs, and natural ground surfaces, which may be uneven or slippery depending on conditions, so please wear suitable footwear.

The event will go ahead in light rain. If weather conditions are unsuitable, the tour will be rescheduled to the next day Sunday at the same time. If both days are affected, you will be offered a transfer to a future date or a full refund.

Please park in the driveway at 20 Cashmere Way, Welcome Bay, Tauranga and follow the sign to the back deck.

A ticket will be emailed to you. Please download this within 30 days and keep somewhere handy for future reference. If you would like to book for more than one person, you will need to process the transaction two times (as it is a digital ticket).

A refund on the ticket price can be offered up to 14 days prior to the tour (minus a $15 admin fee).
